Vietnamese Airlines Soar Higher This Summer with New International Routes to Europe, Australia, and Asia Amidst Travel Surge

Vietnam’s aviation sector is experiencing a remarkable expansion this summer, as local carriers aggressively roll out new international routes to capitalize on the surging global travel demand. With strong interest from both regional tourists and long-haul travelers, Vietnamese airlines are strategically expanding their global footprint across Europe, Australia, and Asia.

Vietnam Airlines Leads with Ambitious International Growth

At the forefront of this summer’s rapid expansion is Vietnam Airlines, which has unveiled several new routes designed to meet the rising demand for both business and leisure travel.

In June, Vietnam Airlines launched a completely new nonstop service linking Ho Chi Minh City with Bali, Indonesia. The carrier initially operates this service with four weekly flights, but has already scheduled daily departures beginning in July, reflecting strong passenger interest in this tropical destination.

Recognizing the significant outbound travel market in South Korea, Vietnam Airlines is also targeting this demographic with its new direct service between Nha Trang and Busan. This route allows South Korean travelers direct access to Vietnam’s stunning central coastline, a region growing in popularity for its beaches, cultural landmarks, and vibrant hospitality sector.

July will also mark a milestone for Vietnam Airlines as it launches the first-ever direct flights between Hanoi and Milan, establishing a new air link between Vietnam and Italy. The airline has plans to further expand its Italian operations with a second Milan route from Ho Chi Minh City, expected to be introduced sometime after 2025.

Expanding Asian Network for Peak Season

Beyond long-haul destinations, Vietnam Airlines is also strengthening its intra-Asian connectivity. From June through October, the airline plans to expand its Ho Chi Minh City–Singapore route, increasing service from fourteen to eighteen flights per week. Furthermore, starting August eighteenth, Vietnam Airlines will enhance its Ho Chi Minh City–Bangkok operations, growing to five daily flights from the previous four, catering to the consistent passenger flow between these major Southeast Asian hubs.

Altogether, Vietnam Airlines plans an extensive summer operation, with more than forty-three thousand flights scheduled and nearly nine million seats available — reflecting a significant fourteen percent increase over the same period last year. To better serve the summer rush, the airline is also introducing more early-morning and late-night departures, allowing greater flexibility for travelers navigating packed holiday schedules.

Vietjet Air Expands Low-Cost International Offerings

Vietnam’s leading budget airline, Vietjet Air, is equally aggressive in scaling up its international presence. Beginning in mid-June, Vietjet launched a new twice-weekly service connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Brisbane, Australia. Operating on Mondays and Fridays, this route offers Australian travelers another direct link to Vietnam’s economic and cultural hub.

Vietjet is also expanding its Southeast Asian presence, having recently inaugurated service between Singapore and Phu Quoc, operating four times a week. This new connection caters to travelers seeking beach escapes on Vietnam’s increasingly popular island destination.

Looking further north, Vietjet is deepening its presence in the Chinese market. In July, the carrier is set to launch fresh routes connecting Hanoi with Chengdu and Xi’an, while simultaneously ramping up flight frequencies on its established services to Australia, India, and South Korea to capture growing demand across these regions.

During the busy summer season, Vietjet plans to operate over sixteen hundred domestic and international flights, adding more than four hundred thousand seats to its network to meet the anticipated passenger surge.

Ongoing Challenges Despite Strong Demand

While both Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Air are aggressively growing their operations, the country’s aviation sector is not without its challenges. The global aircraft supply chain continues to face disruptions, particularly due to the widespread recall of Pratt & Whitney engines. This issue has temporarily sidelined several Airbus A321 aircraft, leading to capacity constraints at a time when demand is surging.

Despite these headwinds, Vietnamese carriers remain committed to expanding their networks and meeting the growing appetite for international travel. The aggressive rollout of new routes and expanded frequencies this summer reflects the airlines’ confidence in the sector’s long-term growth potential, positioning Vietnam as an increasingly important hub in the global aviation landscape.
