WIPO Director General Daren Tang concluded a two-day official visit to Thailand on August 15, 2025, where he met with Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya of the Thai Royal Family, senior Government officials, as well as technology companies and industry leaders.
Mr. Tang presented Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya with the WIPO Award for Creative Excellence. This award celebrates how Princess Sirivannavari has leveraged IP strategies to create sustainable economic opportunities for local communities while preserving cultural heritage. The Princess has used IP to promote traditional Thai fabrics, textiles and designs, combining them with modern designs and fashions to bring Thai culture to all parts of the world.
The Director General lauded Thailand’s strong commitment to IP as a driver of innovation, creativity and economic growth, noting the country’s vibrant startup ecosystem, strong interest in IP-based financing and dedication to preserving and promoting Thai cultural heritage.

Other Bangkok Engagements:
- Held bilateral talks with Deputy Minister of Commerce Suchart Chomklin on strengthening Thailand’s IP Ecosystem and Global Innovation Index ranking and discussed potential approaches to enhance the role of IP as a viable financial asset.
- Engaged with Prof. Vissanu Meeyoo, Vice President, Thailand Science Research and Innovation and Payong Srivanich, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of Krungthai Bank and Member of the Risk Oversight Committee to explore collaborative strategies to accelerate the strengthening of the ecosystem for IP-based financing as a tool for economic growth.
- Delivered a keynote address and opened the IP Fair 2025 with the theme “Vibrant Ideas Unleashed: Igniting Creativity, Driving the Economy through Intellectual Property” together with Director General Nusara Kanjanakul, Department of IP, Minister of Commerce Jatuporn Buruspat and Permanent Secretary Vuttikrai Leewiraphan, Ministry of Commerce.
- Engaged with senior representatives from the Petroleum Authority of Thailand (PTT) and Siam Cement Group (SCG) to explore ways Thai multinationals can collaborate with small and medium-sized enterprises and how they can leverage their IP data to guide their business strategy.
- Met with the National Innovation Agency (NIA) and startups and companies related to NIA to discuss how WIPO can help to support the IP community, emphasizing the importance of seeing IP not just as a tool for protection but as a means to create value.
- Visited Meticuly Co., Ltd, one of the winners of WIPO’s Global Awards 2024, and was briefed by the founders of their latest innovations and business expansion plans, in which IP continues to play a crucial role.
