Laos has always been a hidden gem for budget travellers, but now the secret is out. A night in a hostel dorm in Luang Prabang or Vientiane costs as little as ₹353, while a bed in Vang Vieng can drop to just ₹176. Meals are equally affordable — think steaming sticky rice with grilled pork for under ₹120, and a cold bottle of Beerlao for just a bit more.
Even sightseeing won’t burn a hole in your pocket. The turquoise Kuang Si Falls, one of Laos’ most famous attractions, costs around ₹270 to enter, and the ticket also includes access to the Bear Rescue Centre. Many temples and scenic spots are free to visit, making it a dream for travellers who love exploring without constantly reaching for their wallet.
Transportation in Laos is another big win for travellers. Local buses and minivans between cities usually cost under ₹530. The relatively new Laos–China Railway connects Vientiane to Vang Vieng for about ₹700 in second class. There are no direct flights from India to Laos, but it’s easy to reach via nearby hubs.
