US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard announced on Monday that she will be visiting India as part of a “multi-nation” trip to the Indo-Pacific. The trip is focused on strengthening relationships and opening communication channels to support President Donald Trump’s goals of peace and freedom.

“I’m #WheelsUp on a multi-nation trip to the Indo-Pacific, a region I know well from my childhood in the Pacific. I’ll be visiting Japan, Thailand, and India, with a brief stop in France on my way back to DC,” Gabbard shared in a post on X, along with a photo of herself boarding a plane.

“Building strong relationships, fostering understanding, and maintaining open communication are crucial for achieving President Trump’s objectives of peace, freedom, and prosperity,” she added.

Her first stop will be Honolulu, where she plans to meet with “IC partners and INDOPACOM” (US Indo-Pacific Command) leaders, as well as visit US troops engaged in training. This will mark Gabbard’s first visit to India since assuming the role of the eighth Senate-confirmed Director of National Intelligence, and the first female combat veteran to hold the position in the second Trump administration.

Earlier in February, Gabbard had met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Washington DC for a bilateral meeting with President Trump at the White House. Gabbard was the first US official to meet Modi at Blair House on February 12, shortly after the Indian Prime Minister’s arrival in the US capital.

“Met USA’s Director of National Intelligence, @TulsiGabbard, in Washington DC. Congratulated her on her confirmation. Discussed various aspects of the India-USA friendship, of which she’s always been a strong advocate,” Modi wrote in a post on X.
