The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is making a grand showcase of the kingdom’s diverse travel experiences at the China International Travel Mart (CITM) 2024, held from November 22-24 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai.
Under the theme “Let’s Have Fun in Amazing Thailand,” TAT leads a delegation of 51 Thai tourism businesses and airline partners to captivate premium Chinese travelers. The presentation highlights Thailand’s vibrant culture, stunning landscapes, and luxury experiences, reaffirming its appeal as a top-tier destination for Chinese tourists.
Heading the delegation is Mr. Sorawong Thienthong, Minister of Tourism and Sports, signaling Thailand’s commitment to strengthening ties with China. This initiative sets the stage for the upcoming 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations in 2025.
“Chinese travelers have always held a special place in Thailand’s tourism landscape,” stated Mr. Thienthong. “This event reflects our dedication to enhancing mutual connections while showcasing the unparalleled charm of Amazing Thailand.”
At the Thai pavilion, visitors can explore interactive exhibits, exclusive promotions, and a glimpse into the kingdom’s renowned hospitality. From serene beaches to wellness retreats, Thailand’s offerings cater to every traveler’s desire for unforgettable experiences.
Participation in CITM 2024 underscores Thailand’s efforts to rejuvenate its tourism sector while fostering deeper bonds with China’s booming travel market.
“CITM 2024 provides a pivotal platform for Thai tourism operators to connect with key stakeholders in the Chinese travel market,” said Mr. Sarawut. “This event underscores Thailand’s readiness to welcome Chinese travellers with enhanced safety and service standards, positioning Thailand as a top destination for both first-time and repeat visitors.”
At the heart of Thailand’s participation in the China International Travel Mart (CITM) 2024 is an impressive 361-square-meter Thai pavilion. Designed to captivate and engage visitors, the pavilion features interactive multimedia displays and immersive activities that highlight the kingdom’s vibrant attractions.
A key focus is the “5 Must-Do in Thailand” campaign, which invites visitors to explore the essence of Thai experiences:
- Must Taste: Relish the country’s world-famous culinary delights.
- Must See: Visit iconic landmarks and breathtaking attractions.
- Must Seek: Uncover hidden gems across Thailand.
- Must Buy: Shop for authentic Thai products.
- Must Try: Participate in enriching activities unique to Thai culture.
Focus on Attracting Premium Tourists
This initiative forms part of the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s (TAT) broader strategy to appeal to middle-class and affluent Chinese travelers. By encouraging longer stays and higher spending, TAT positions Thailand as a dynamic and sustainable destination, balancing growth with responsible tourism practices.
Commitment to Sustainable Tourism
TAT Governor Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool emphasized the importance of sustainable growth in the Chinese market. “Our participation in CITM 2024 underscores our vision of Thailand as a modern, fun, and culturally rich destination,” she stated. “We aim to deliver unique experiences that resonate with premium travelers while fostering long-term sustainability.”
By spotlighting Thailand’s diverse travel offerings, TAT aims to maintain its allure among international visitors and reinforce its standing as a preferred and eco-conscious travel destination.
Rising Trends in Chinese Tourism
Between January 1 and November 10, 2024, Thailand welcomed over 5.86 million Chinese visitors, solidifying China’s position as the leading source market for international arrivals. Chinese travelers are drawn to Thailand’s warm hospitality, rich cultural heritage, and iconic attractions.
The growth has been further bolstered by a 65% increase in flight seat capacity compared to the previous year. New direct routes from Xi’an, Changsha, and Zhengzhou, alongside initiatives such as the visa exemption policy for Chinese tourists and promotional efforts like the Amazing Thailand Road Show, are driving momentum.
TAT’s efforts at CITM 2024 and beyond are anticipated to help Thailand achieve its target of 7.3 million Chinese visitors this year, cementing its reputation as a premier global destination.
